Mixed methods methodology – designing and conducting a mixed methods study

After attending this workshop, the participants will be able to |
After attending this course, the participants will be able to: 1) understand the foundational concepts underlying mixed methods research; 2) develop rigorous mixed methods research questions relevant to their research topic; 3) identify appropriate qualitative and quantitative data sources; 4) describe 3 basic designs and 3 advanced applications of mixed methods designs; 5) choose one mixed methods design appropriate to their research questions; 6) formulate a study title and project aims that reflect a rigorous mixed methods approach to their research questions 7) accurately describe their mixed methods design via written text and visual diagrams; 8) develop an implementation plan using a mixed methods implementation matrix; 9) identify and describe procedures for merging qualitative and quantitative data; 10) prepare for data mixing/integration; 11) develop joint displays/visuals of their qualitative and quantitative data; 12) summarize the results of their integrated analysis in written reports; and 13) present their project in a poster session. To gain the most from the workshop, participants should expect to do assignments about one hour each day after the workshop! |
Target audience |
Target audience is graduate students and faculty in healthcare or social sciences interested in designing mixed methods projects that use qualitative and quantitative data in their research. No previous experience with mixed methods research is required. |
